It is not yet clear how high the discounts will go, but in the January sale shoppers could get as much as 70 per cent off selected lines.

What date is the sale and what time does it start?

Next has so far remained tight-lipped about this year's launch date, but last year it started on March 23.

This was what many shoppers had guessed already, with the first hint coming from changes to the retailer's store opening times, which were moved to 7am on Saturday rather than the usual 9am.

Facebook page Money Saver Online claims the sale will start on March 21, but Next hasn't yet confirmed this.

We checked opening times at the Oxford Street Next, the Bullring in Birmingham, Argyle Street in Glasgow, Trinity Shopping Centre in Leeds and the Trafford Shopping Centre in Manchester and they haven't yet changed their opening times.

But it doesn't mean the sale won't be happening, so it's worth keeping an eye on the retailer's social media channels in the coming days.

Opening hours can very from store to store so you should check your local's times here before you head to the shops.

If it's not happening this weekend, a hint suggests it could actually be happening on March 28.

The Sun has spotted a job ad on the Next website which is for store staff to join the team for a sale.

It says that the roles are for a couple of days a week, 'most likely to include working Friday 27th and / or Saturday 28rd March 2020, depending on the store.'

The job ad also hints at how long the sale is expected to last.

Next says that the roles will last for 'up to three week's work' implying that the sale might be over by then.

How to make the most of the Next Spring sale

THESE tips from a Next employee can help you make sure you bag the best bargains this weekend.

  1. Familiarise yourself with the stock – check in store and online to see what items you might fancy, that means you'll be able to act fast once prices start dropping. Online you can even bookmark your favourites.
  2. Check online – often the sale launches online before stores open so go digital to get the best bargains.
  3. Consider the VIP scheme – If you have a credit account you can get access to the sale 24 hours before the rgeneral public.
  4. Choose the right store – smaller outlets are likely to be less rammed, so you may have less competition for great deals
  5. Shop late in the day – around two hours before closing, staff start replenishing stock for the next day, this is a great time to hit the stores.
  6. Look at ticket codes – if you're in a next keep an eye out for black dots on tickets, chances are that means an item is going to be discounted, so you're better off waiting till the price drops.
  7. Homeware and women's clothing sells fastest – so you might want to get to stores first thing for these items

Will the sale be online as well as in stores?

The sale is usually available in both stores as well as online, but Money Saver Online says it'll be online only this time.

Once again, Next hasn't yet confirmed this so we'll update this article once we hear back.

The retailer hasn't yet said whether it plans to close any stores due to the coronavirus, although it could of course happen depending on government guidance.

Yesterday, Boris Johnson hinted that London could face a coronavirus lockdown – with extra travel restrictions for Brits in the capital.

Next customers on Twitter have also received emails offering them VIP sale slots, giving them access to the sale earlier than other shoppers.

Twitter user Emma tweeted that her VIP slot came through yesterday.
